The AMAZING Cat Show!

Katzenworld

We were greeted by « Monty. »

He was a huge canvas full of layers and texture with big expressive eyes. I think the model for « Monty » had cat-titude.

Welcome to the second year of The AMAZING Cat Show! If I couldn’t spend my Friday night on the couch covered in pj’s and cats, than at least I could be with friends gazing on hundreds of pieces of cat themed art.

I did a squealing « caaaaaaaaaaaaaaatttttttttttssssssssssssss!!!!!!!! » happy dance in the entrance much to the bafflement of one of our party who could not understand why on earth enough people had shown up to pack us in shoulder to shoulder to look at cats. Looking at a heavily tattooed woman wearing cat ears, he asked me if it was the artsy people or the cat people that brought out all the weirdos. I explained that if we created a Venn diagram, there…

Tips & Tricks: 5 Tips for Adopting a Shelter Cat

Katzenworld

Hi everyone,

Today we have some Tips from our friends over at:.

PetsBestLogo_Med5 Tips for Adopting a Shelter Cat

By Dr. Tracy McFarland, a veterinarian and writer for Pets Best, a pet insurance company for dogs and cats.

Adopting a cat or kitten should never be a spur-of-the moment decision. This is especially true when adopting a shelter kitten or cat, whose medical and social history is often unknown.

Here are five tips for people who are considering adopting a shelter cat or kitten:

  1. Consider a Cat’s Basic Needs

Determine whether you can devote enough time to a cat or kitten’s needs for food and water, grooming, affection, litter box maintenance and play. It is also important to determine whether you are financially able to provide what a cat will need in terms of food, litter, grooming supplies and veterinary care.

Cats tend to be less expensive pets than dogs, on average…

A Street Cat Named…

Katzenworld

… Oliver!

Nubia: Hold on a second… I know that famous cat and his name is not Oliver!

dsc06194

Oliver: No no… It’s me I am the famous street cat!

Nubia: Right… well the evidence is in the photo above… It’s called A Street Cat Named Bob. Not Oliver! 😦

dsc06197

Oliver: But you have to admit that I look very pretty with this scarf right sis?

Nubia: Maybe… but do you remember how difficult it was for the humans to get you to wear it?!?

Oliver: No it wasn’t…

Nubia: Right…

dsc06174

Nubia: So you weren’t trying to wriggle away in this photo?

Oliver: I just wanted to check out the book…

dsc06176

Nubia: And walk away in this?

Oliver: Hmmm…. just trying to get to the right spot….

dsc06181

Oliver: Fine fine…. Maybe I was reluctant… but when I realised how nice and warm this scarf was. 😀

Oliver: And that was it…

Cat Care Tips for First-Time Cat Guardians

Katzenworld

So, you’re thinking about adopting your very first cat. They make great pets — they’re fantastic companions, don’t need to be walked and tend to adapt to a new home quite quickly. However, they are a big responsibility, and you need to be prepared before you pick yours up from the shelter. Here are our best cat care tips that will help you to prepare for your new arrival.

Get everything you’ll need

It’s important that you’re well-prepared for your cat’s arrival, and there are some things you’ll have to buy for them. Here’s our checklist of essentials:

  • A warm and comfortable bed
  • A litter tray and litter
  • A scratching post
  • Stainless steel, glass or ceramic food and water bowls
  • A range of cat toys
  • A collar

  • Food that suits their needs

Helping them to settle in

Although we’re sure your new cat or kitten will love their…

Ode to the Rooster

The Druid's Garden

The Chinese New Year is now being celebrated, and it is once again the Year of the Rooster. I see this as a tremendously positive and powerful sign–a message of light and hope in this time of darkness. In honor of the rooster, I offer two stories that demonstrate how powerful and protective the rooster is–and how the rooster’s energy this year can lend us power and strength to drive back the dark. So now, pull up a chair by the fire, and hear two stories of roosters and their magic.

Painting of Anasazi Rooster Painting of Anasazi Rooster

As I mentioned a few blog posts ago, a group of us held an all night vigil for the winter solstice.  This is not an easy ritual–it is about 15 hours of darkness, in the cold months of the year. Our ritual started well enough: we had a glorious sunset, a lovely ceremony, a…
